Create a Content Schedule and Leave All Other Blogs in the Dust

If you are not creating content, then you need to create a schedule. A content creation schedule might be the forcing function you need to take your blog to the next level.

When I started my blog I was very sporadic with my posting. I would put out a couple posts one day and then weeks would go by with nothing. The trouble with this is two fold. It looks bad to Google as well as your web visitors. Those are pretty much the two things you don't want to look bad to. How can you possibly create a loyal following if you don't rank well on Google, or your visitors never come back? I wouldn't come back to a site that never gets updated.

I was able to fix my sporadic updates by creating a content creation schedule. In my case, I set aside an hour or two, three days a week. During this time I would do nothing but create content for my website. I would create as many posts as I could in that time frame. Sometimes I sat down and struggled to create one, sometimes my thoughts would flow and I would create three or four. Instantly I had a flow of posts for my blog. I went from 1 post a week (or every two weeks) to at least 5 posts a week. It wasn't long until I noticed instant traffic and Google love.

Another benefit I noticed from the schedule is that I used it as a forcing function. Sometimes I would be drawing a complete blank on what to write about, but I knew I had an hour or so ahead of me so I just got my thoughts down. One day I was completely blank on what kind of posts to create, so I ended up creating a "5 weird toilets" post. It seemed like fluff and a last minute idea, but it ended up attracting me thousands of visitors. I still get visitors for long tail toilet related search terms.

If you have a blog you have to create content. Are you spending hours backlinking and blog commenting to drive traffic? Divert some of that time to content creation, nothing gives you a return on your time quite like that. What do you have to lose anyways?
