subject: Wireless Burgler Alarms: The Plusses [print this page] The sky is clean and clear, the air outside is crisp, the sunlight coming in through the windows is pure, and there's a breeze. Though there was rough weather overnight, she relaxes in front of me with her laptop, her crystal blue eyes glancing back and forth from her keyboard to her screen and her eyelashes following her gaze. For her, in that moment, she is unreconciled with her own fate.
Rewind to several months ago, Ellen Frisk made the decision to take steps to keep her home safer. Recently there was an outbreak of violence, and break-ins in her once quiet neighborhood, and she was beginning to question her own safety. The police were more active in the area, but the crime seemed persistent.
Since her complex wouldn't allow her to have a dog, that became a non-option. Furthermore, any dog that is protective would prove to be difficult to train, and care for in an apartment complex. Next she decided to find out more about alarm systems.
Ademco LynxThere are some important differences between them. The wireless burglar alarms had the edge though with installation. She wasn't willing to pay someone to run wires through her walls for a place she was only renting. Having wires all over the place would definitely affect the apartment's appearance negatively. She decided to go with wireless burglar alarms.
The only thing left to do is select a manufacturer. Napco Security Systems, DSC Alarm Systems, and Ademco Lynx turned out to be some of the better choices. Each of them had great features. DSC does offer some "home monitoring". Additionally they offer features such as a panic button, 32 zone coverage, and large keypad buttons. Ademco has a state of the art keypad system that allows you to keep in touch with the police if need-be, and also has a monitoring solution. The biggest selling point of the Napco alarm system was it's "IQ Profiler" feature which helps eliminate false positives. Ellen has a cat . . . Which is also affected her dog decision. Knowing the difference between her cat and an intruder made the alarm system a lot more attractive to her.
Earlier that week Ellen's home was broken into. The silent invader immediately put duct tape over her mouth as she slept. She woke up and frantically grabbed at anything to defend herself with. He grabbed for her arms, and she kicked a few times, enough to break her loose. She made a break for it, and pulled off the tape. She heard her cat screech as the intruder tripped over him. He overpowered her, and the rest was a blur.
Fortunately none of it happened though. The reason is because before he ever got inside the apartment, I was watching over her and he new that. Watching over her furniture, her possessions, and even her cat, and now she sits in front of me on this beautiful morning quietly catching up on her email.
