subject: Be Mindful, Your Choices Influence Others [print this page]

Do you realize that the choices you made have an influence on those around you? Simple choices like taking public transport instead of driving to work, preferring fries to vegetables, jumping queue instead of getting into the line, arguing instead of talking nicely, spending instead of saving, doing things last minute instead of preparing ahead, reading instead of watching TV programs, occasionally treating your colleagues to light snacks, performing social work in your free time

Lets take a look at Vernies situation. Vernie always tells her children to eat more vegetables and makes sure that there is a good serving of vegetables during meal time. However, Vernie herself does not like vegetables. She will skip the greens and indulge in fried stuff. Naturally, she has a hard time convincing the kids to pick up the good habit.

She confides in her good friend, Sue who could quickly identify the problem. Sue asked Vernie to walk her talk, arrange the greens in attractive ways and watch what happens. This does the trick and Vernie realizes the power her actions have on the kids.

Lets move on to another case. Malcolm, in his free time, always helps to deliver bread and buns to the needy. During a gathering, he happens to share this past time with his friends. To his pleasant surprise, some of his friends show keen interest in what he is doing and ask that he brings them along. Words spread around and very soon the number of volunteers soars to great height.

Never underestimate the influence your choices have on the people around you. Make good choices and help make your world and the earth a better and nicer place.
