How to Discipline Yourself

Disciplining yourself can be quite difficult thing to do. At most you can detract your attention from drugs, alcohol, smoking, or overspending on other things. Being disciplined means your specific in achieving your goals whether it be financial, emotional, physical, or spiritual. It means polishing those traits and moving toward a attainable goal. Have a reminder such as a sticky on your monitor and glance at it each day. This will help ensure the goal becomes engraved in your mind and will help you stay focused. This one gets most people temptation. Temptation comes from fear or insecurities. Often times we do stupid things just to get over stress or fear. These are drinking, smoking, impulsive buying, and over eating.

If there are bad habits that you have then you should break those habits. If drinking, smoking, or any other habit has formed, decide to replace it with a good habit. Something like reading a book, riding a bike, walking outside, or eating healthier. Replacing the old habit with a new habit takes approximately 3 months. So don't stress if you don't get it the first day. It takes lots of time. The most important aspect to remember from this is to keep yourself motivated and determined to achieve that goal. Take away every unnecessary distraction and get in your "working mode". Whether this be a silent state, or techno music with headphones like me it is best to mimic your best productivity mode and start from there. Determination, hard work, and a willingness to achieve your goals will reap great benefits in the future.
