subject: Foreclosure Cleanup Business Owners: How To Register With Housing Authorities To Get Contracts [print this page]

Many who own or are thinking about opening up a foreclosure cleaning business are unaware of one way to get jobs. What is it? Registering with housing authorities for government (local) contracts.

Why is this a good idea? How do you register your foreclosure clean up business with local housing authorities? Read on.

Why Registering with Housing Authorities Is a Good Idea

Recently, as part of the Obama administration's stimulus package, local municipalities throughout the country received federal funds - fund that went directly to local housing authorities for all types of building and community improvement projects that foreclosure cleanup companies are capable of handling.

Sample List of Cities/States Across the Nation That Received Stimulus Money

Norfolk, Virginia: Received $9.2 million in stimulus money;

New Orleans, Louisiana: Received almost $35 million;

Tampa Bay, Florida: Received $10.5 million dollars; and

Chicago, Illinois: Recipient of a mind-boggling $200 million in stimulus funds.

What Housing Authorities are Doing with Stimulus Dollars

Housing authorities are for the most part allocating money to restore and revitalize run-down neighborhoods and/or those affected by the mortgage meltdown (aka the foreclosure crisis). As many are aware of, a lot of foreclosed properties (residential and commercial) were abandoned. This left them open to vandalism and outright neglect.

Because of this, banks and other lenders need a lot of services that foreclosure cleanup companies offer in order to get these properties back in shape to be resold and/or rented. For example, many need services like lawn maintenance, replacement of broken windows, winterization, locks to be changed to prevent further damage, holes in sheetrock fixed, etc.

All of these are services that foreclosure cleaning - and other real estate-related firms - can provide.

Type of Businesses That Can Bid on Housing Authority Contracts

In addition to foreclosure clean up businesses, the types of real estate-related firms that would do well bidding on housing authority contacts are:

Plumbers

Electricians

Landscapers

General Contractors

Flooring Professionals

Painters

Etc.

In short, if you have anything to do with building/maintaining a residential or commercial property, bidding on housing authority contracts can take your company to a whole other level of success.

How Does Bidding for a Contract with a Housing Authority Work?

The first thing you should be aware of is that applications for bidding on housing authority contracts can be found online.

Secondly, you need to register with the right housing authority. Some jurisdictions have more than one, so do some digging to find out which one(s) you need to register your foreclosure cleanup business with.

Third, once you find the right housing authority and go to their website, look for a link that says something like (names vary): Contracting Opportunities, Vendor Opportunities, Business Opportunities, Doing Business with the Housing Authority, etc.

Fourth, complete the application.

Fifth: Do follow up. Sometimes, you'll be required to send follow-up information via fax or snail mail before your application will be considered "complete."

And that's it. Registering with housing authorities to get foreclosure cleaning jobs is an excellent way to grow your foreclosure clean up business.
