subject: Staying And Playing On Vacation [print this page] We have taken our children on some pretty exotic trips, some for educational purposes like Washington DC and Williamsburg, others are purely relaxing like the beaches of Southern California or Florida, others are for sight seeing like Bryce, Zions, Grand Canyon and the Everglades. We have gone to natural wonders and theme parks alike but the key to successful trips with kids is hotels with swimming pools. It doesn't seem to matter the reason behind the trip how long you are gone or where you are, it is the hotels that make the trip for children. Hotels are for bouncing on the beds, watching TV late at night in bed and if you are really lucky, room service. Hotels say vacation, relaxation and getting mom and dad to yourself if you are a kid. We spent a fortune taking the kids to Disneyworld and on the second day our little boy asked if we could just stay at the hotel and swim all day. We have city pools and recreation centers at home, but these just don't compare with hotel pools.
Vacations offer the much needed breaks for families and couples. A time for reconnecting, a time to explore, play and try new things. Kids don't care what National landmark or Park is nearby they just want to swim in the Barbie size swimming pool filled with as much chlorine as water. They want to splash and yell with childlike abandonment The first thing we always did as children was check out the pool, winter, spring, summer or fall if the hotel pool was open we were in it. Dad would swim with us and Mom would put up her feet and read a long awaited book.
Whether you are staying and playing in hotels in Arlington, Texas or Boise, Idaho, the important thing is to enjoy it as a family, let your hair down, turn off the cell phone, unplug the computer and enjoy uninterrupted time with your family, spouse and children. Vacations often are too short and too long in-between so really make the most of these little adventures.
