Toads may be able to predict earthquakes days before they occur. According to a study published in the Journal of Zoology, 96% of the male toads left their spawning site 5 days before the 2009 earthquake in L'Aquila, Italy - 46 miles away. They didn't return for 10 days - until the significant aftershocks had stopped. All the paired frogs were gone within 3 days of the earthquake and they didn't return until after all the aftershocks had stopped.
