It is now possible to screen all newborn babies for hearing loss even before they leave the hospital.
Hearing problems in babies are now detected quite early by using Otacoustic Emissions. A soft probe is used for delivering sounds into the ear canal.

To eliminate the chance of babies having problems after growing up, it is best to screen all of them. Children will be able to develop their language skills better and also lead near normal lives forever.
An audiologist would be required for conducting a diagnostic testing only if a baby fails both these tests. About two percent of the babies have to undergo diagnostic testing.
For infants as small as two or three months, amplification equipment can be deployed to make up for hearing loss. Children can develop normally if such help is available early.
