At the time we owned a business and had to rent a storage shed for several things from the business. Then we closed the business and that led to more items having to be stored. My father-in-law helped us move all of these things to our home and we chose to have everyone unload these things into our garage with the plan to go through the stuff before we put it in our basement. My father-in-law was teasing us that we wouldn't have it all cleaned out of our garage in a year. The year did come and go and we had gone through quite a bit, but it was still stacked high in our garage.
We finally went and got shelving to help with the storage in our garage to help us get organized. I had been dragging my feet thinking that adding shelving to our garage would just take up more space and how could it be different than stacking boxes on top of each other. My husband was persistent and felt that it would make a big different. After a year of working through things I finally gave in and decided that it would be a good idea to get shelving and try it.
I was amazed at how much difference the shelving made. Instead of having stacks of boxes that weren't easy to get to we could easily access the things that we really needed. It also seemed to help make more room in the garage and it felt better. We had also looked at several other options for organizing our garage and it was amazing how small things could make such a difference. What I started to realize was that it didn't have to take a ton of money or a lot of equipment to start making a difference in our garage.
