San Diego occupies the second position in the list of the biggest cities the US state of California. It acquired its name from Saint Didacus. The city is home to a sizable population and this can be attributed to the fact that it forms the financial core of the San Marcos-Carlsbad-San Diego Metropolitan area and also serves as the county seat of the San Diego County.

More and more people have settled in this city owing to the availability of numerous employment opportunities and the presence of a host of excellent educational institutions. These include the USSD Medical Center, which is affiliated to the University of California in San Diego. San Diegos economy is boosted by contributions from the biotechnology, electronics manufacturing, financial services, agriculture, telecommunications, ship manufacturing, defense equipment manufacturing, tourism, computer sciences, and wireless research industries. All these explain the citys rank amongst some of the wealthiest cities in the country.

The citys population is almost equally spread amongst its various parts. The downtown area is obviously densely populated. The area was revived in the early 1980s. These include the opening up of the Horton Plaza and the re-opening of the Gaslamp Quarter. In 2004, the doors of the PETCO Park were opened for the public. San Diego Convention Center has also added to the activities that are centered in this part of the city. The prices of San Diego homes for sale vary with their location. There are some neighborhoods that are more popular amongst potential real estate buyers and this explains why some houses in San Diego are more expensive than others.
