Our democratic system has failed and yet we are maintaining its current state.
WHY? -
Before I am accused of being an anarchist it also must be said that any law and order is better than none and furthermore a bad democracy is better than a governmental system of total freedom. This does not excuse not doing anything about it either!!! Today's drive of consumerism puts a veneer over the enslavement all in the name of democracy.
Most democratic systems in use across the world are not working but are working inadvertently towards dictatorship and totalitarism.
You may have seen John Pilger's documentaries or other well-known journalists information, all showing failures of grand scale and often unknown to the general public; for obvious reason: propaganda and public relations on a scale difficult to envision.
Yet this is only one of many symptoms and below I will endeavour to present some less appreciated factors which underlie many of the symptoms that find much media coverage, from education, conspiracy, bribery, healthcare, crime to social benefits hand outs.
In particular I like to address our so called experts which are highly educated to miss the point altogether. In intellectual battles of semantics and literalness of meanings people's life are lost. An argument for its sake is but a failure on both sides. My background is education and what passes for education in today's scholastic systems is perhaps best compared to bestow a soldier with a Dr Title. There are a lot of experts who do know what I am talking about but have not show any signs of interest to do something about it. These people may think they know but rest assured they are only learned without any understanding as the reductio ad absurdum of above is not only dictatorship but total wipe out and nobody will and can win. Once millions die, here in our country, it will be a sorry state of apologies. Perhaps we could motivate ourselves before the "unfortunate" mishap happens to do something about it.
The underlying flaw on a governmental, local or organisation level can be traced back to a failure in individual responsibility. It can be summed up as follows:
The government is the sum of all our irresponsibilities.
First off, the flaw in the democratic system itself. The main flaw is its indirectness. The people who masterminded the current system did not mind people-power as long as they could maintain their fingers in the big pie called power and they were confident that they would achieve this with the system implemented. While this is an assumption, what is going to follow is no assumption. The principle of indirectness or via (via: going through a channel or using a relay point.) Let's first make an example: if I wanted a law to protect my son, I have to go to my MP, who in turn will go to his party, who in turn will take it to debate and to a final decision. This in turn will go to a department head who will execute the order based on the ratified law. This simplified example has at least 4 vias. In other words, governing, law making is complex and not a direct and simple affair. I have to wait for others to decide about "my" law.
Despite its evident flaws we value it very much and are unwilling to even look at reforms. It almost seems to be heresy to suggest a review. Why? Because between you and me is an MP. He is our official political link or relay point and he represents our views to us. This may seem to be a semantic point but in reality this is a major problem. If he, at anytime, decides to bring his personal agenda in without making it clear we get a distortion; we may or still think this is our collective view but in reality it is his view. This is what is happening in our indirect system. Just to give you a contrast, in a direct voting system you could present a law and then get it voted on. No via, straight forward and you know your law is approved or not.
The second and underlying flaw is the issuance of a law itself. Why are people not taking more responsibility? It is worthy of filling a many books. Government as already above mentioned is the sum of our irresponsibilities. How easy is it to pass the bucket and who doesn't or hasn't done it? How easy is it to ask someone else to make a law or decision for us and than when it goes wrong blame those incompetent individuals over there?! Every law we make can be traced back to an unwillingness of the individual, who demands it, to take responsibility for their own action.
How easy is it for a parent, who failed to raise an alert and aware child in turn demand a law is made that all cars must drive 10 mph to ensure his child doesn't get killed or no other child might be harmed?
We live in a society where being a victim is a 'fashion.'
There is always a 50/50, no matter how fast a car drives, why was the person not looking? Because he didn't think it necessary as it is his Right to be there. There are women who will consider it their right to go to a pub half undressed, get drunk, flirt with all the man and than get not raped. How bright was she for thinking that it is her right to express herself in such dangerous environment. I am sure I have a right to express myself in the Antartica by wear my swimming trunks only just not for very long; real world meets my-right-world. To be in dream-world may be expectable at home in your bed; out there it is an instant liability and shouldn't be tolerated.
Why would his right be more than ours? Please examine various cases and you will find that most victims could have taken more responsibility in their action. As it was their "right" they considered unnecessary to do so. While this will not explain all cases, it does explain our fashionable modus operandi: being a victim.
Every law we make means in its essence results in a partial individual irresponsibility; failure to observe and prepare and care for one's life in a sufficient manner by assiging reponsibility to others to do it for oneself.
Responsibility is a big word, it is now a fashion to be not responsible and get rich. Well it also means dictatorship.
In closing the final and all underlying flaw is to be found in human nature. Here I can speak from personal conviction and experience. Our human mind not the brain is capable of great feasts as you can witness all around you and yet it has problems. These problems have been mapped and resolved.
In short all above flaws and the many symptoms if you care to list them all can be found to have their cause in our human mind's problems. It is a flaw in our human mind a perfect computing machine that has outsmarted itself. You may wonder how a perfect machine could outsmart itself. It is possible evidently. What an irony that all our political and commercial systems and scholastic principles contain the same errors, as our perfect computing machine is perhaps not so surprising. We must address the human mind. Forgive me when I chuckle away, we have outsmarted ourselves, it is just too funny.
