subject: Looking For A Personal Development Business? This Industry Is Hot [print this page]

The personal development business is growing at an unprecedented rate. Though different studies show their own unique set of numbers, everyone agrees that the self-improvement business and the personal development industry are on the rise again. People don't just want a job where all they do is clock in, clock out and just go through the motions. People are looking for more. Many feel the need to find something more fulfilling, something that they can feel passionate about and something where they feel like they are growing every day and feeling a sense of purpose.

Most people realize that success takes more than just watching television every night. Furthermore, many people are doing something to change themselves for the better. For instance, high school graduates who immediately enrolled in college rose from 55.7% in 2004 to 62% in 2006. Moreover, for those people looking to get healthier, the number of "express workout gyms" has jumped from virtually nothing to over 10,000 in just the past 10 years.

Self-help books, non-existent a century ago, now exceed $600 million in annual sales. An industry that was growing by 10-12% five years ago has not only eclipsed that pace but has exceeded expectations, and in 2010 it is anticipated that the market could clear the $14 billion mark.

So who is behind these amazing growth trends? Surprisingly, it isn't found in just one generation. Even though the Baby Boomer generation may be the catalyst for this growth, younger generations are just as involved in helping to build up this wave. Trends such as hiring a life coach, purchasing audio or self-help books, taking vitamins or using holistic health approaches, or attending college courses for new skills, are all part of the journey to success.

Why are people working so hard to become more successful? Mostly, people are looking for a better way to live, whether that includes a chance to become healthier, more efficient, more energetic, smarter, or bettering one's skill set. Moreover, successful people have an advantage when they are looking for increased income.

Let's face it. If you are in the office, side by side with a peer who is frequently working out at the gym, taking a course in public speaking, learning a foreign language, mastering stress management techniques through yoga, and listening to any audio book that he or she can find that is related to your industry, who do you think is going to get the big raise at the end of the year?

Not only will self improvement lead to increased skill and ability, but better self-confidence will also blossom from the experience. Whenever you take steps to improve yourself, your self worth increases along the journey to success. You will feel better about yourself, and others will notice this positive change in you as well.

Personal growth and personal development bring success into your life. If you're not learning and growing, then by default, you will be stagnating and dying. Rather than having an apathetic attitude about growth and change, join the bandwagon towards a better life. By learning a new skill, working on healthier habits, and boosting your personal power, you will be a better asset to everyone and everything in your life.
