subject: Merit Scholarships For Moms - Finding College Aid [print this page]

There are many different kinds of scholarships that are available for single moms to go back to college. One of them is called the merit scholarship. Although these are typically reserved for people just starting their college career such as high school students that are starting as freshmen, there are many ways that you can qualify for these particular sources of funding that are available every day even for single mothers.

One of the most well known is the Garfield Weston Merit Scholarships for Colleges. Although this particular source of funding is not well known, it can literally lead to thousands of dollars for women that are looking to return to school in order to complete their degree.

Another one is the National Merit Scholarship Program which is a program that is based upon your individual skills and is a nationally acknowledged source of funding. This is very useful if you are going to attend a university that is not in your area or if you have decided that an online college is best for you.

If you do not live in the United States, you can try for the Canada Merit Scholarship Foundation program which is typically only available for Canadians. If you live in one of the border states or you have recently moved into this area, this would be your best bet for finding financing that will suit your collegiate endeavors.

The best way to find additional sources of merit scholarships is to look online. If you are a minority and you are at a certain income level, you can apply for and register to receive as many of these programs as you can find. There literally are no limits to the number of applications you can fill out or funding that you can receive.

Most of the time there is nothing but a lack of an attempt on the part of the person that is seeking financial aid. It is easy to take out student loans at the college of your choice. Sadly, you will have to pay this back with interest once you have finished your degree or you have left the university.

The best way to avert any type of repayment of funding for school is to make sure that you get it in the form of a grant either through the federal government or through scholarship programs designed to help those in need and I can qualify based upon their merit.
