subject: How To Increase Your Fitness As A Runner [print this page]

When you run, you want to get better at itWhen you run, you want to get better at it. This would mean that you increase your speed, as well as your endurance. In order to run further, this endurance will need to be worked on a bit in order to improve. Here are a few tips to help you do just that.

The first thing that you can do is to run with a partner, preferably one who is a bit faster that you. This slightly faster pace and a friend being there with you, will help you push yourself. You will match their pace naturally and over time get used to it.

Another strategy is to run at different paces, while you do your routine. Many have their normal pace and stay with that. Over time this does nothing to help you improve. What you need to do is to add in some sprints, while you are doing your normal pace. Sprint, then use your normal pace to recover and then repeat. This helps both speed and endurance.

Start looking at your diet. Some runners come to a point where their diet before the workout becomes important to their endurance. The body needs certain fuels in order to operate better. A change in diet or having certain snacks beforehand, can make a difference in terms of endurance.

Consider doing other workouts that build endurance. The body can adjust to running over time. Do something difficult that you aren't as used to - that builds endurance. This could be a variety of other cardio workouts that challenge other muscle groups.

Add extra distance to your runs, gradually. Even adding a tenth of a mile every few weeks will help your body adjust to running just a bit longer. One goal in doing this is to attempt to get the workout done in the same amount of time as you were getting it done when it was slightly shorter. This helps you push yourself as well as run further which can help.
