3 Ideas For Using Wall Art In Your Home

Along with colour scheme, flooring, furniture and lighting, wall art is a key factor in determining the style and character of a room or living space. It comes in all sorts of shapes, styles and sizes, but how you use wall art can be almost as important as what you use in creating the desired design effect you are after.

Here are 3 simple ideas for creating different design effects in a living space:

1. More is more - having a lot of wall art is often associated with character homes and rustic homes. Filling the walls gives a home an eclectic charm and lived in feel. However it can take years to collect enough, mirrors, pictures, art and photos to decorate a whole room. If you don't have the patience for that, it a good idea to select just one wall as a feature wall; it helps it that wall is unencumbered by furniture to show it off to it's best effect. Then fill you feature wall with as many pieces of as you dare! Try to use different sizes, textures and colours and experiment with the layout, the best eclectic feature walls often look like they have grown organically in a mishap way but often careful planning is the secret to gaining this effect.

2. Less is more - The complete opposite of the eclectic look is to use a single piece on a feature wall. In this instance larger pieces have greater impact. One option would be to cove an entire wall with a mural or a large canvas another option would be to use a striking piece of art and highlight it using down lighters.

3. Linear effect - Using linear wall art works well in minimalist and traditional style rooms. Linear simply means placing wall art in a line, either vertically or horizontally. It gives clean lines to a room and often works best with 3 or 4 pieces with of the same theme.

These are just 3 ideas, just remember it's not just about the wall art you buy it's also about how you use it!
