subject: Quick Remodeling Projects To Do In A Weekend [print this page]

Knowing where to start with a house remodel can be tricky. If you own an old house and want to fix it up, plan out a few good projects and stick to your blue prints. There are a few things you can do right off the bat to make your house look new and feel nicer without having to go into debt with a huge remodeling project.

First, look down. What do your floors look like? Do they need to be updated? You'll be surprised at what a difference new flooring can do to the overall look of your house. Installing new tile or laminate is a pretty easy project, too. If you have an afternoon on a weekend and are looking for a quick project, buy some supplies and tile your bathroom floor. This space is usually smaller than other surfaces in your home and will be less frustrating if you're just leaning how to get started. And if you tile your bathroom floor you might just be ready for a whole bathroom remodeling project.

Another great project you can do in a weekend is painting. Whether the outside of your house needs a facelift or you have a few rooms that could benefit from a new coat of paint, painting is a relatively cheap and quick way to spruce things up. If you're looking to paint a room, remember that there is some preparatory work you need to do first before starting the actual painting. You'll need to purchase some blocking tape and tape off all the corners and moldings. You'll also need to think about where the paint will land if you spill some. Buy a good drip cloth or use an old sheet to catch any paint you might drip during the project.

It is possible to do some remodeling projects in a weekend. Just be careful that you know what you're getting into and don't start any projects that end up taking weeks instead of hours. Plan out a careful budget for your project and shop around until you find a place that you can get your supplies for the best price possible. Making your house look new doesn't have to cost a fortune. Some states like Illinois and Texas are even offering tax rebates for projects that make homes more energy efficient.
