subject: Cheap Hosting Or Free Hosting? [print this page]

It can be tough when you are on a budget, and interested in purchasing cheap hosting, but you don't want throw your money down the drain. What is even more difficult is making a good decision, because there are a ton of hosting companies on the market today. But believe it or not there are some very good cheap hosting companies that can host your domain for cheaper than you might think.

One thing that a lot of people mistakenly do is go with a free hosting company, because they are trying to cut out expenses and lets face it, who doesn't like free? Well, the underlining truth is free hosting has so many cons, that out weigh the pros.

For starters, you don't really own your site when you host it with a free hosting company. You have it hosted on a free server which means they can do whatever they would like with your site. If you are hogging their bandwidth your site will get deleted. Believe me I have seen it happen a million times before.

Another thing that kills me about free hosting is the fact that they pack your site with a million advertisements. This can kill your online business. People will click on their ads and leave your site. This is very bad and you do not want to get people to your site and then just click on your ads. There is a reason why free hosting companies are free, they get to make money off of your site.

Another drawback to there free service is you get very little customer service. Actually, sometimes you will get exactly no customer service at all. Typically they will have a support ticket which can take them up to a week to respond.

A much better option would be a cheap hosting service. This could be a shared plan that usually comes with unlimited email accounts, full 24/7 customer service, script support, ect. Hosting has really gotten so cheap nowadays, in fact, you could get a a good cheap hosting plan for about the same price as 2 gallons of milk a month.

Most importantly, your site can be guarantee to be up for 99% of the time. A free hosting company can not promise this. In fact, since they are free chances are you site would take several minutes to load. People are impatient so chances are the more and more you inconvenience them, the more apt they will be to leave your site and not do any business with you.
