subject: Will I Be Charged For Canceling A Pickup? [print this page]

When you change the schedule of a courier company in any way, there is a good chance that you are going to receive a surcharge on your next bill for doing so. The reason for this is simply because the scheduling and organization that goes into every single day of work for your Cincinnati courier service is considerable. Anytime an adjustment is forced to be made to their schedule it represents a significant amount of work on their part to accommodate for the change, and they want to make sure that they are compensated for their time.

Canceling a previously scheduled pickup usually falls under this category. At the end or very beginning of every day, a courier will create a schedule for their drivers. They will do this combining additional orders placed with regularly scheduled routes until they create the most profitable and most efficient route for their drivers. However, if that information changes, they have to look at everything again to make adjustments in the most effective way possible.

The less notice you give your courier company about cancellation of a pickup, the higher the chances that you're going to face a fee or surcharge for doing so. That is because the less time they have to readjust their routes; the more likely it is that they aren't going to be able to find an efficient way to do so. Also, if you really wait until the last minute it is possible that the driver is already on their way to your location, meaning they have already been wasting time and gas.

There are some courier companies that have a window within which you can cancel a regular pickup without incurring a fee. Usually this will be at least 48 hours before when your pickup was scheduled to be made. These can differ quite largely from company to company, so be sure to check with your courier to see what the cancellation window is, or if they even have one.

Trying to cancel your pickups as seldom as possible is obviously the way to go in these types of situations. However, sometimes there are situations which are beyond your control, and most couriers understand that. You will still be charged a fee in most situations, but your best chance of avoiding one is to be sure to give the courier company as much notice as you possibly can.
