subject: Is It Possible To Schedule A Multi Stop Shipment? [print this page]

Sometimes companies have more complicated delivery needs than simply needing something to be picked up and dropped off in another location. This is no problem though, as there are a wide variety of courier companies that are set up to handily handle even the most complicated courier requests. Simply talking to your Chicago delivery service will quickly show you that you have the option for setting up much more complicated delivery requests if doing so will help your business.

One of the first things that people wonder about when they start trying to find ways to more efficiently structure their deliveries when their distribution network is growing is whether or not it is possible to make multi stop shipments with a courier. This is of course possible in a wide variety of situations, but not in all of them. There are some general guidelines which can help you figure out if you're going to be able to have a multi stop shipment made.

First, whether or not you can have a multi stop shipment made is going to depend largely on how you do business with your courier. If you have a scheduled delivery run where your delivery is just one of many they pick up and deliver on a route, it can be difficult to add something that route, especially on short notice. Giving the courier ample time and a description of your request will go a long way towards allowing them to find a way to meet your request.

If, on the other hand, you're using a dedicated courier, you can schedule a multi stop shipment in any way that you want, including the order that they are going to make deliveries in, or the routes that they take. Dedicated couriers might include a situations where you subcontract a courier to make your deliveries, have a truck hired on an FTL basis, or are shipping rush or any other option where the courier doesn't make additional pickups.

The point that is being made is that courier companies usually have the flexibility to meet any shipping request you might make, no matter how complicated they might be. If you need a delivery structured that can make several smaller drop offs to your clients along a pre-planned route, just try discussing it. You'll usually be pleasantly surprised at how your courier can find a solution that will work for you.
