One of my favourite non-fiction books is called "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.
Originally written back in the first major depression of the 20th century this book is the standard by which I judge or other self-help books. It's a huge bestseller and there countless numbers of versions.
In my opinion the best version is the original version restored and revised with revisions and so on by a guy called Ross Cornwell. Ross has brought the book into the 21st-century and make it readable for a modern day audience.
The main reason I like the book is that the author Napoleon Hill spent a lifetime carrying out research before publishing its findings in this book. And when you look at the people he spoke to during his research, you know that the suggestion he puts forward to improving your lot in life actually works.
I think it's further to say that the book has spawned a whole industry of self-help and how to improve your life books. Many of today's so-called gurus cite this book as one of the main influences that help them build their careers and created the lifestyles they desired.
I'm halfway through reading the book for a second time, as I read it a few years ago but didn't really apply its teachings. However something made me pick up the book again (the version I'm reading today) and start afresh.
