The digits 192.168.1.254 is the default IP address for home broadband routers, broadband modems and some:

3Com Office Connect routers, TP-Link routers, Billion ADSL routers, Alcatel ADSL modems, Netopia / Cayman Internet gateways, Linksys SRW2024 managed switches, Westell modems for Bellsouth DSL Internet service in America and Thompson ADSL routers.

The manufacturer at the factory has set this address but this can be changed anytime by using vendors management software.

This IP address is a private IPv4 network address which can used by any device on a local network. For avoiding address conflicts between a lots of IP addresses, only one device on the network should use 192.168.1.254 at a time.

Problems in accessing 192.168.1.254

If you cant access the IP, then ping it first, go to the start menu, type cmd and press enter, then type ping 192.168.1.254, a reply will be shown but if its not, then connect to the access point first and go to wireless connection status, click properties and look for the internet protocol (TCP/IP), highlight it and click properties, mark use the following IP address and type 192.168.0.1~100. A number between 1 and 100 should be selected on the last slot. The press Tab and the default subnet mask will be automatically generated. Press OK to close the application, then go to the start menu, run type cmd, press enter and type ping 192.168.1.254. Hopefully it would work.

Problems relating to Gateway Timeout

There will be a problem of Gateway Timeout if the router fails to get a response from a computer sitting at the address 192.168.1.254. It is possible that there is no computer at 192.168.1.254 or it is not listening to port 80. It is also possible that a firewall on the computer at 192.168.1.254 firewalled and will not respond to such requests.

The routing may be set incorrectly and all requests were forwarded to the port 80 to a different IP and 192.168.1.254 is not listening to port 80, or is routed to a different IP address or cannot respond because of firewall.
