Stsadm is located at the following path: C:Program FilesCOMMON PROGRAM FILESmicrosoft sharedweb server extensions12in.
Now point comes that you want to backup & restore a site collection or a whole site. Follow these steps to backup a site collection:
You can backup a site collection using this command:
stsadm -o backup -url
-filename
Similarly You can restore a site collection using this command:
stsadm -o restore -url
-filename
Follow these steps to backup a whole site collection:
In order to backup a whole site, you can use this command:
stsadm -o export -url
-filename
In order to import a whole site, you can use this command:
stsadm -o import- url
-filename
You have to remember one point when you restored your SharePoint Database:
Note: You should restore your database to a new Database.
To apply this point follow these steps:
First you have to take backup of your site from old URL:
stsadm -o backup -url
-filename
After that deleted old URL:
stsadm -o deletesite -url
Restored it at the new URL, which exists in a new content database:
stsadm -o restore -url
-filename -overwrite
