subject: Massage Therapist Have More Career Choices Today [print this page]

When embarking on the journey of receiving a degree in massage therapy, often times people overlook the wide variety of possibilities for job options. The common misconception is that all massage therapists work out of their home or out of a massage therapy clinic, but nowhere else. Recently, especially, this has been proven false. People with a degree in this field of study can work not only out of their home, but also in a chiropractors' office, a doctors' office, hospitals, health clinics, health clubs, fitness centers, with athletes on various sports teams, and spas. This can seem like a lot at first, but once broken down all the pieces fit.

If working out of the house, a massage therapist must purchase his or her own equipment, but will have the freedom of working on his or her own time.

Specialists who choose to work in an office tend to make more money than those working out of their house and have the ability to use the equipment provided for them, but have much less flexible schedules.

When working in a health club, fitness center, or with a sports team, a therapist must be accustomed to dealing with athletes and problems relating directly to athleticism, and therefore should be prepared for the worst at times, athletes tend to put immense amounts of strain on their bodies.

If one chooses to work in a spa, one will be in a relaxing environment, often with soft music. In a spa, there tend to be several other massage therapists, which provide one with a social aspect to the job, as opposed to a doctors' office where often times there is only one therapist at a time.
