subject: Plumbing, More Important Than We Realize [print this page] Have you ever stopped to think about how much you are reliant on plumbing? Have you ever thought about all of the different places in your home that you count on running water? Maybe you have thought about that, but have you thought about the plumbing that it takes to keep things moving in and out of your home? There are certain things in life that many of us really enjoy that we might not take the time to realize how much we really count on it.
A few weeks ago I was in Mexico and we had gone and done a few activities. We had come into Mexico on a cruise ship so we weren't in a hotel or anything close by that we could go to use the restroom. We were in a shopping area and a few of us needed to use a restroom. We asked a couple of places and they said that they didn't have a restroom. Then we finally saw a Baskin Robbins and thought that it was a US company and we would be able to find a restroom there. When we went in they said that they didn't have one available, but we could go a couple of doors down and pay to use their restroom. They said that you pay to use restrooms in Mexico. I thought that was very interesting and I found myself really appreciating the use of plumbing that I had in my home.
One time I really came to appreciate the plumbing in my home was when we first moved into our home. We had been renting and didn't pay the water bill so I had forgotten that was a new monthly bill that I needed to pay. I got up in the morning and went to shower and brush my teeth and realized we didn't have any water. I called the city and they said in a couple of hours they would come out and turn it back on. I thought no big deal and I would do other things. Then I quickly realized that there were no flushing toilets, laundry, washing dishes, drinking water and so many other things.
It is so important to have good plumbing in your home. If you don't have good plumbing you quickly realize how important it is. Plumbing is one of those things that we all enjoy, but don't really appreciate until we don't have it.
