subject: Why They Won't Commit To You [print this page] In every relationship, there is one problem or another that can bring about tension and discomfort. Usually it is worries of infidelity, or it is long distance, or it is sometimes just lack of interest. It is easy to mistake that third one, however, for the most common of reasons that people break up: lack of commitment. It is perhaps one of the most cliched of reasons cited for break ups, but as the old saying goes, cliches come from somewhere, right? Here are some signs that your partner has commitment problems.
One of the most difficult relationship types is dealing with the Mama's Boy and the Daddy's Girl. These are the people who are still attached to their parents in such a way that hinders their ability to commit to a relationship. This is usually either by comparing their partner to their respective parent, or simply wanting to spend more time with their parent than they do their partner. These kinds can usually have a turn around and put their partner first, but sometimes the person is too immature to realize the damage they are actually causing their relationship.
Another big sign of lack of commitment is whether or not your partner is a workaholic. If your partner is constantly attached to a phone, or always at the office (or wherever it is that they work), or always talking about work, then that should let you know where your partner's priorities lie. Do not confuse this, however, with someone who has a very demanding job. Often times a demanding job can take a toll on a relationship, and your partner may be just as concerned about the relationship as you are.
Another sign is that your partner shies away from talking about importing issues in your relationship. If you talk about your relationship in terms of being a long term (or potentially life long) affair and your partner seems less than enthusiastic about it, it could be a big sign that your partner is not as willing to commit to the relationship as you are. Keep in mind that sometimes there is simply relationship burnout, where your partner may feel that everything is being discussed too fast, in which case you and your partner should have a talk about slowing things down a bit.
Lack of commitment can be a very ugly thing in a relationship, and it is often a sign of laziness. However, sometimes it is a sign that, as bad as it is, your relationship has run its course. However, if your partner is willing to discuss the problem and work things out, then there is hope for you yet.
