The third definition is more of a combination of the two first explanations. It is all about increasing the pace of the workout whilst using a heavy resistance.

Isolation - This technique calls for the training of a single muscle group without the involvement of any other muscle. This sort of training is used to impart the optimal muscle shape.

Juice - This is gym slang for steroids.

Lats - This is also gym jargon for the back's lateral muscles. From the rear they seem to form huge inverted cones. The word is derived from the Latin 'latissimus dorsi'.

Lean-body mass - This is the amount of mass that is primarily constituted of fat-free tissue. The amount of lean-body mass that you have is the determining factor for your rate of basal metabolism. Basal metabolism is all about the calories that are combusted for energy during rest. For healthy males, the body fat content i.e. body mass minus lean-body mass should be between 8-12 percent while in females this figure should be between 18-22 percent.

Muscle confusion - This is the attempt to spur further muscle development after the muscles have stopped responding to training. The bodybuilder should do this by varying the weights, training styles, angles, reps and sets regularly.
