A motorcycle accident is a stressful and traumatizing event that one hopes to never have to experience. But, the sad reality is that they do occur. In fact they occur at very high rates, especially as more and more people look to the motorcycle for their transportation needs. One of the worst parts of a motorcycle accident is the injuries that can be sustained.

The most deadly of injuries are head related. More and more states are requiring motorcycle riders to wear helmets at times during operation in order to prevent and lessen the severity of potential head injuries. Some common head injuries include concussions and brain damage. Concussions are very dangerous because they can often go unnoticed and never receive the proper medical attention needed to prevent further harm. Brain damage can result by any sort of blow to the head. If a victim has brain damage, they will more than likely lose some, if not many, bodily functions both mental and physically. Permanent brain damage can be a huge stressor on a family because of the special needs and requirements of the victim.

Damage to the spinal cord can result in paralysis and even death. The spinal cord is one of the most important parts of the human body. Unfortunately, it is very fragile and very difficult to protect during a motorcycle accident.

Other injuries are usually less dangerous, but can still lead to death. Cuts are dangerous because they can lead to blood loss and infections. Paramedics will often need to treat major blood loss at the scene of the accident to prevent death.

Broken bones and fractures are other common injuries endured during motorcycle accidents. While these injuries can be very painful, they can usually be fixed. In fact, broken bones are endured by the luckier victims of motorcycle accidents.
