PRINCE2: What Makes PRINCE2 Projects Different?

What makes PRINCE2 projects different?

A project is a temporary organisation made only for the purpose for delivering business products for a particular agreed business case. Things that makes projects different from business as usual:

Change - changes are introduced by introducing a new project.

Temporary - projects always have a defined start and finish and therefore are always temporary.

Cross-functional - people with different skills and different backgrounds all work together to introduce a change in the business. This often causes problems as different people have different motivation for getting involved in the process.

Unique - all projects are unique, even though they may take a familiar pattern of project activity. Each project is different in some way whether it be a different team, customer or location each time.

Uncertainty - all of the above will introduce risk as this is not part of the regular activity, leaving uncertainty. These risks can be minimised by implementing Management of Risk.

Why do I need a method of Project Management?

Project Management is the planning, delegating, monitoring and control of all aspects of the project. The other major task not mentioned, is to provide motivation to those involved in the project. Without this it is difficult for the project team to achieve objectives, especially under the stringent conditions of time, cost and budget. PRINCE2 Training is a non-proprietary method recognised globally for managing successful projects. Its success comes from being so generic: its application does not take into account project scale, type, organisation, geography or culture. PRINCE2 Training has been discounted significantly recently. So it would be a suggested location, as it is affordable as well as easy to access.
