The first thing I've learned is that there are A LOT of people offering some pretty bad information out there...:-) Mostly people who THINK they understand the process of writing profitable article marketing campaigns, but don't really DO it in real life. (they teach it, instead..:-)
I've learned that often, keyword research is WAY over-rated. You are far better picking something that you are passionate about, doing a little bit of TITLE optimization from the standpoint of what you want to rank for, and then simply focusing on creating copious amounts of killer content that PEOPLE want to read, and not machines.
I've learned that there is NO real profit in going after small, esoteric micro niches. The real key to getting massive amounts of traffic from writing and submitting articles is actually in attacking the MOST competitive niches, where there is tremendous volume. You only need a small fraction of the overall market to make a major move, and this is especially true if you are working primarily as an affiliate.
I've learned that worrying about SEO, or how often you should re-purpose and re-distribute the same content is actually NOT a good investment of your time, your energy or your effort. The truth is, the very BEST content you create will be re-distributed by many people and publishers for you....and if you focus on delivering exceptional value, the marketplace will make sure you are rewarded.
I never write long articles anymore, either. I've learned that short, 400 word, informative and instructional articles will outperform and out-convert long verbose "data dumps" every time....with the ancillary benefit that you'll get FAR more people who want to learn more about what you have to offer, which improves your CTR as well. (the most important part of making money with this strategy....PERIOD!)
Lastly... after thousands of articles that have generated MILLIONS of readers in tens of niches and pen names, I've learned that the very BEST way to make a full time living from content marketing is to focus on things you are PASSIONATE about, have real expertise in, and LOVE to teach.
