Taking Control When You Suffer From Adult ADD

Adult Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) is becoming more talked about in today's fast society. Years ago it was unknown, it was not something that medicine or psychology focused on. It was not until children were diagnosed with it, that it was studied in adults and taken seriously. For many adults suffering from this condition, life can be frustrating, and negativity creeps in, when everyday challenges become overwhelming.

It becomes hard to maintain a positive attitude and regain control of your life when you are in a state of frustration. Focusing on your ADD will let you feeling discouraged and down. If you have looked for medical help and are taking medication for your condition, but still feel that you do not have a complete grip on it, there are things that you can do on your own to help you regain control.

The first thing is to take care of your body. You do this by eating healthy foods, exercising, and getting the necessary rest.

Encourage a positive attitude. It may be difficult but with practice, you will establish a habit of being positive. It will make a difference in the way you approach a situation or a project. Read positive thinking and self-improvement books.

A positive attitude is tied to a grateful attitude. Feel grateful for all the wonderful things in your life, material and immaterial. Each day, take some time to acknowledge these things. Every time a negative thought enters your mind, replace it with a positive one - just change it.

Worry when you have too, and do not anticipate worries that have not materialized yet. Many times we spend time thinking about the things that may happen, and worrying sick about them, but these things most of the time do not become real. Stop worrying unnecessarily. Reject the negative thoughts that show up in your mind about a particular situation that you assume without having any back up information or proof.

Enjoy the feelings of love, friendship, and learn to give them too. Sometimes we know how to receive but we are afraid to give, because we fear rejection. Learn to be affectionate and enjoy the physical contact that comes with it. Nurture friendships and socialize with positive people. Their energy and positive attitude is contagious. When you spend a lot of time isolated, you tend to encourage feelings of loneliness and self-pity. Joining a volunteer group will help you socialize and feel good about helping a good cause.

Nurture a hobby or an activity that you enjoy. Schedule some time for it, and do it regularly. It will give you satisfaction and will help your focus.

Do not let the speed of today's world get you down. Do your best every day, and realize that there are more important things than focusing in material expectations, or performing to the standards of a stressed and workaholic society. Opt to find your balance, not the balance of others.
