Revenge is one word for the wish to get even and it is an act of reciprocating another individual's actions negatively for getting ashamed or hurt. Sometimes revenge is just done out of one's desire to make another individual feel disgrace in the same as he made one feel it. Some people get revenged at even without knowing that they have done something wrong to others.
The main reason for people seeking revenge is that they feel indignant about having to suffer from embarrassment or humiliation and they want to rise up and do something to those who have done these to him to gratify their pride. This kind of feeling is almost instinctive to a lot of people especially when they a physical or emotional part of them is being oppressed.
One of this motives is that someone feels attacked and that he is suffering unfairly by having lost or gotten injured. This causes the person to feel mixed feelings such as shame, anger, hate, or envy. This is caused by conditions that range from an unconscious and delicate gesture of action or tactless words that were spoken to a deliberate and open physical attack or reprimand.
When someone feels seemingly inferior to someone who has more power or better circumstances especially when the other individual attained it in dishonest ways, he tends to be dominated by the wish to get revenge because of being powerless over the other. This emotion is even made stronger when others are in the same situation and in a lower position and the person feels sorry for it.
Some people also become very firm when it comes to defending honor and so when someone has done enough to trample honor, whether this honor is of the individual themselves, or of his friends or of his organization or group, he would do whatever it takes just to defend this honor and bring back good name and dignity.
How people get revenge can differ from one person to another. There is a really long list of ways on how to get revenge but the common thing among these ways is that these ways are just the means to an end which is gratifying the ambition to bring back lost pride, honor, or bruised self-image.
The most common way of getting revenge is do to another individual what this other individual did and make another individual as much as possible feel the same way just like how this other person made someone feel. Teaching another person a lesson or making another person learn his lesson is also one way of getting revenge and this is done by punishing someone for a wrong deed done or making another individual face difficult situations that he deserves.
The best form of revenge though, as famous quotations go, is forgiveness and living well even after getting disgraced or hurt. This is because it's only through these that the individual attacked will feel genuine peace and it shows a good side of a person which creates a good image for others.
