subject: 4 Steps On How Teachers Can Help Students Prepare For Science Fair [print this page]

Teachers can assist the student to come up with a good project by: selecting the topic, help in researching and intvestigation, analyzing results, and assist in finding a possible conclusion

Every science fiar, students would sometimes find it hard to come up with a topic at first. Sometimes, they are not confident with their preprations. There are some ways in which teachers can help students prepare for the science fair, after all, they want the students to excel at their best. Here are some tips.

Selecting the topic

The most vital step the students must do is to decide on what topic to explain. In this process, the teacher would ask the students what topic or which field of science are they most interested in, or questions that they themselves want to find out the answer is. To make it more interesting, teachers can give out some example situations that involes the process of experimentation to come up with a problem. This step also enables the students to think that it a science project should be always complex, but to be comprehensive. After giving the students some time, they can eventually formulate the questions and move on to the next step.

Help in researching and investigation

After identifying which topic, you can assist the students to research on the topic. Give them some tips on where to find good references to formulate a concrete hypothesis. This step also involves planning, aside from researching, it is in this step the student would gather all the materials needed for experimentation. Teachers can give some tips on how to limit their ideas to the relevant information. After that, allow the studnets to conduct their own investigation.

Analyze results

After the collection of data ang integrating every parts of the testing process, give the students some pointers in analyzing the results. The students would compare the results from the hypothesis to come up with a conclusion. Give them some hints about the standing of their hypotheses. After this, studnets may come up with a new problem and testing of data may be repeated.

Assist in finding a possible conclusion

The last step for the students to do is to write a report all about the experiment, from finding the problem, the testing and to the results. The teachers here can evaluate the progress if the student's work and can make a possible documnetation for future researchers. After that, the students can now have a science experiment that can be exhibited at the science fair.

Once teachers can see the final outcome of the student's experiment, they can always reflect on how effective they can be as mentors to their students.
