Cars Get Even Smarter with 4g Wireless

Watching movies about the future, one thing the hero always had was interactive technology. Think about Batman cruising along in his Batmobile. Batman could, with his voice-activated technology, or simply by flipping a switch, control many functions on and around his vehicle. While most of us aren't out there fighting comic book crime, there are occasions when it would be nice to be more in tune with one's auto. That's where the future of vehicles, it would seem, is headed these days. With the advent of 4g wireless, people will now be able to get seamless high speed service right in their cars from one coast to the other. What are the implications when it comes to cars? As many as the imagination can conjure!

To begin with, people would be able to surf the web. The simple act of getting online could help to look up information, send emails, and even make phone calls while on the go. Of course, doing this while driving might be a bit dangerous, but for passengers the chance to catch up on to do' lists would be great. Many people have recently begun to value the television screen and DVD or game console combination as entertainment for kids (of all ages) in the car. This would be the next generation of that, and could even include the ability to listen to any music in the world instantly online, download any movie or show, and keep up to date on news and the weather.

Speaking of the weather, having an instant internet connection in the car via 4g wireless could help the driver to know at all times not only what weather is coming up, but what the road conditions are. At the first sign of trouble motorists could avoid traffic, get the best possible directions to get where they are going, and even summon roadside assistance should anything go wrong. Today, mechanics can access information about what is going wrong when a car breaks down by using special computer systems. Imagine if your car could simply tell you when you turn it on that the air pressure is low in the right front tire, or that the oil should be changed in the next few days. All of these practical measures would take the computer and GPS systems that are used today and simply boost them to the next level with mobile broadband connectivity.

Of course, it will take some years before WiMax towers are extended all the way across the country. Without that kind of coverage, a car with an internet connection doesn't do much good since the signal would constantly be dropped. After waiting nearly a decade for the 4th generation of internet service to arrive in select cities however, a few more years won't feel long. Cellular phones have changed the way people live, work and communicate, and surely having coast to coast high speed internet will do the same; it will change the lives of everyone in ways that can scarcely be imagined just yet. Hang onto your hats for the full technological ride coming of the course of the next few years!
