The big chill continues to take its hold over Great Britain, with even London seeing snow this week, and the rest of the country experiencing as much as fifteen centimetres per night. Britain has come to a standstill, with over two thousand flights cancelled, Gatwick completely shut down and trains and roads in chaos. The M25 has ground to a halt and now resembles a massive ice skating rink, with it showing no signs of stopping. A southern train got stuck in a power failure in west Sussex and three hundred passengers were stuck for twelve hours until the problem was fixed.
It seems that despite the problems that we had last year and the criticism the government got for the lack of planning and lack of purchasing f grit, nothing has changed this year. Thousands of pounds were put into buying up enough grit to protect chaos this year, yet on the roads this week there is a distinct lack of gritting lorries and provisions to protect us against the bad weather.
Tens of thousands of passengers are stranded in the airports, with Gatwick and Edinburgh airports shut for safety until further notice, and more than four thousand schools were shut across the country yesterday. Scotland has seen temperatures as low as minus twenty five degrees in the evenings, and people are being advised not to drive unless totally necessary.
