Removing Computer Viruses

An infected computer is often victim of system problems, data loss, sending spam emails to others and so on. If your computer is infected, do the following procedures.

Scan the whole system for viruses

You must keep your antivirus up to date. Installing latest updates is recommended to keep your computer secure.

Boot your computer in the Safe Mode with Networking by pressing F8 key before Windows starts loading.

Download good antivirus software, and scan the whole system.

Use a Rescue Disk

Rescue Disks are self-bootable disks having antivirus software installed. They enable removing the viruses on your computer without loading your operating system. Viruses have their startup entries in the registry; so that they run each time your operating system is booted. And, in most cases, accessing your computer in the Safe Mode is not possible. Thus, you are recommended to use a rescue disk.

Using your friend's computer, download a rescue disk and extract the ISO contents. Burn them on a DVD ROM, and insert it on your own computer.

Turn on your computer.

Press F2 or Delete button.

Set-up the following:First Boot Device: CD ROM

Second Boot Device: Hard Disk

Save the settings, and restart the machine.

By pressing ENTER, boot from the inserted DVD ROM, when the following message appears:

"Press any key to boot from CD . . ."

Follow the instructions on your screen. Update the scanner again.

Scan and delete the viruses that found.
