Face it, the game of SEO is all about beating out your competitors for the top rankings in Google and other search engines. Some people are very good at this game, and some are not. Many business owners simply don't have time to invest in trying to get their website to perform well, so they hire a Lethbridge SEO expert.
The search engine algorithms are a dynamic process whereby data from your website is fed into a giant formula which calculates how relevant your website is to certain search criteria. If it sounds complicated, that's because it is. These giant formulas are kept top secret, but there are always marketers out there who are trying to "crack the code."
SEO comes in all colors, from white hat SEO which is considered playing fair to black hat SEO which are tactics that clearly disobey Google's TOS (terms of service.) Then there's the inbetween, the grey hat SEO. The grey hat SEO dabbles in the black hat while trying to keep one foot in the white hat so as not to attract attention. Websites that use black hat will find that they can experience a sudden climb in search engine rankings, but then they can also find themselves de-indexed when Google figures out what's happening.
You don't want to be de-indexed. That means you will not show up anywhere on any page of Google. You are "out." Grey hat can be a little risky. Most marketers prefer not to enter the grey area, but to stay behind the safe line in the white hat area.
Before you start your SEO campaign, it may be a good idea to go check out Google's terms of service on their site. It's not too hard to find, and you can just google it (of course!)
If you are a website owner with time on your hands and you are up to a little competition, you can do a lot of SEO yourself. There are many sites where you can learn some basic SEO to get started.
