What have we become? Semi-mindless sacks driven by our egos, our greed for materials? or are we, as a society, something more? Unfortunately, I feel like we are slowly becoming the former. I don't however, think we are making the decision consciously; so much as it is a life style that our culture projects upon us.. Capitalism, big business and this overall sense of the need of inanimate objects has put us in quite the awkward situation.
Capitalism, which has been driven by big business and trusts through out American and other "developed" countries histories, seems to me to be nothing more then an updated Caste system based upon monetary gain. All though, unlike the Caste system of Indian culture, we have the ability for (in comparison) relatively easy social mobility.
However, that social mobility is limited by the overall abilities of the individual. We reward greatness and leave the average man caught in their own struggles. Struggling for money, and in that way we are all the same. Our lives revolve around the gathering of it. But why? And what for?
Obviously, the money we make is used to sustain a lifestyle. But what's the point of it? Self gratification? Perfect. We've created a society based upon our own self satisfaction. We strive to fill our own desires, without regard for anyone else. We're living in a system of Controlled Greed; in even simpler words. Ironic. It's one of the Seven Deadly sins, and since we're a culture with heavy Christian influences, especially in regards to morality, I will repeat again what I just said. Ironic.
Yet, where does that leave us? Is this a problem? Or just my imagination? The psycho babblings of a young man who asks too many questions where answers are either not to be had, or not to be given.
