The current mobile device trend is the Tablet, a phone and laptop hybrid that offers the touchscreen functionality of a phone combined with a much larger screen. Apple began the trend with the famous iPad, however Samsung have now released the excellent Galaxy Tab, the first such device to utilise the excellent Android operating system.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab is a modern looking device yet incredibly durable. The 7 inch screen is made from a special material named "Gorilla" glass. This is an incredibly resilient material with great scratch resistance properties that is actually used in helicopters and high speed trains. Thanks to the screens capability of handling up to 16 million colours, graphics look vibrant and the clarity is great thanks to the excellent 600 x 1024 resolution that it can display. The panel its self is touch sensitive and uses the capacitive method rather than resistive. This is much more responsive to the users touch and results in a satisfying experience using the machine. A new sensor can be found alongside the familiar faces in the form of the three axis gyro sensor. This more precisely detects movements of the user and could well come into its own with regards to the development of more life like games and applications. Looks wise the Galaxy is stunning. The black and white design really does stand out from the crowd. Size wise the unit is impressive too. It is smaller and half the weight of the iPad, however Apples model was deemed to be a touch on the large size. Conversely similar device from the likes of Dell have been to small, boasting just 5" screens. So this middle ground really does seem ideal for this style of unit, and similar models like the Blackberry Playbook are being released with similar dimensions to the Samsung.

For what is essentially a portable device, it is pleasing that the Samsung Galaxy Tab offers a host of essential connection options. The fastest and best way of accessing the web is via WiFI. The Galaxy supports all three current recognised speeds and loads web pages very quickly. If you are not lucky enough to be in range of a WiFI network, you can utilise the devices 3G facilitys which offer the fastest mobile form of browsing. Either 16GB or 32GB of internal storage are available on this model, with the larger number being particularly attractive to people who want to use it extensively for media files. There is a 1.2 and a 3.15 mega pixel camera fitted in the unit, with the smaller front camera being perfect for video calls. Fans of video recording will love the HD video capture, which can record your footage in stunning 720P resolution. The Samsung Galaxy Tab looks destined to be a huge success with consumers thanks to its portability combined with high specification and stylish looks.
