Steam cleaning tile and grout is a very good idea for a number of reasons and not only because it can be far quicker than some other methods due to the space it can cover at any one time. The way it works is it uses a combination of pressure and a high temperature for the water so it can really blast out the dirt and grime particles with dry steam. What this means is that they are not being blasted with water like a pressure washer so it is not just pushing the dirt deeper into the grout and nor is it going to just blast it too hard so it weakens it.
When you have cleaned it you really must re-seal it all because it protects the tiles and it does stop dirt from getting back in as quickly. You should be looking at doing this once or twice a year but it does really depend on where the tiles are as different areas shall need cleaned more often
