Problem:

Suspended particles in well water can be a big problem when itcomes to clogging sprinkler heads and creating buildup on pipewalls. Dirty water can lead to equipment failure and forceddowntime. This is the problem that Alex Posada was responsible forsolving. Posada is the Director of Recreation & Parks forthe City of Santa Maria, California. The challenge beforehim was to reduce particulate matter from a well at alocal recreation open-space park."Water being pumped from the well had a significantamount of mineral and soil debris contamination givingthe water a cloudy appearance. It was leavingheavy residue deposits in our pipe lines, water troughsand water tanks." said Posada.

Solution:

The City of Santa Maria installed a Forsta B2-90 self-cleaning water filter to help remove particles from thewell water. The filter's compact design made installationeasy, and the backwash controller now allows thesystem to be fully automatic, eliminating the need forfrequent maintenance. The 50 micron multi-layer screen traps suspendedparticles, and expels them when buildup occurs. Thepoint-of-suction backwash cycle cleans the screenwithout interrupting the system flow using less then 5 gallons per backwash. Filtered water iscontinually supplied to the park's irrigation system, evenwhen the filter is cleaning itself. "We are satisfied with the filter we have and it seems tobe working well for our application." Posada said of theForsta self-cleaning water filter. When asked about working with Forsta Filters andApplication Engineer Eran Fischer, Posada replied, "Eranwas very helpful in following up with my emails and ourinstallers got good tech support while installing thesystem. I would say our experience was very good."
