Planning a Small Bathroom
Planning a Small Bathroom

Decadent, classic or contemporary: A bathroom is a place to relax and unwind. Your very own spa space at home. Whatever size room you have, you can create your very own bathroom heaven. Your use of bathroom furniture, fixtures and fittings, wall and shower tiling and heating system will create the perfect space for you if you can think outside the box and be a little daring.

If you're thinking about renovating or fitting a new bathroom it's always a good idea to speak to local stores in addition to visiting the major chains. This is particularly true if you have a small bathroom as local stores will understand your needs very well.

When remodelling bathrooms it's a good idea to visit several online stores too especially as they often have some great discounts, finance options and often free delivery which can be a real bonus as new bathrooms can be expensive.

It can be difficult to find good free bathroom planner software but if you keep the following five tips in mid before you remodel, it will help with your plans.

Top 5 tips for a small bathroom

1. Take out the bathtub and replace with a luxurious, large walk in shower with full height glass panel. This may be difficult if you like to take a bath BUT think about how many times you actually take a bath compared to taking a shower. It opens the room up completely and gives you a wet room look. If you really can't do without a bathtub, a square shower bath may be for you.

2. Large bathroom tiles and shower tiles make a small room look bigger. Use two contrasting colours for depth and lay the floor tiles length ways away from the door to make the room feel larger.

3. If possible, consider underfloor heating in addition to a slimline heated towel rail. Choose a system that's independent from the central heating for toastie toes whenever it's a little chilly! If you can't go for underfloor heating then look for slim vertical bathroom radiators that pump out a lot of heat but don't take up too much space.

4. An oversized shower head looks great in a walk in shower but in a small bathroom remodel don't go too big! 25cm or 10" is about right.

5. A mirror with an integral light creates warmth, depth and a sense of luxury. Choose one with a sensor to avoid the ugly hanging switch cord that will discolour over time.
