About the show: Set in Pasadena, California, the show is about two fictional Caltech geniuses, one an experimental physicist (Leonard Hofstadter ) and the other a theoretical physicist (Sheldon Cooper ), who live across the hall from an attractive blonde waitress and aspiring actress (Penny ).
The original unaired pilot has never been released on any official format, but copies are available on the Internet. On the evolution of the show, Lorre said "We did the 'Big Bang Pilot' about two and a half years ago, and it sucked... but there were two remarkable things that worked perfectly, and that was Johnny and Jim. We rewrote the thing entirely, and then we were blessed with Kaley and Simon and Kunal." As to whether the world will ever see that original pilot, maybe on a DVD, Lorre said "Wow that would be something, we will see. Show your failures..."
The second pilot of The Big Bang Theory was directed by James Burrows, who did not continue with the show. This reworked pilot led to a 13-episode order by CBS on May 14, 2007. Prior to its airing on CBS, the pilot episode was distributed on iTunes free of charge. The show premiered September 24, 2007, and was picked-up for a full 22-episode season on October 19, 2007. David Saltzberg, a professor of physics and astronomy at the University of California, Los Angeles, checks scripts and provides dialogue, math equations, and diagrams used as props.

Eww. To be fair, Shamy isn't a traditional couple; Sheldon has no interest whatsoever in getting physical, preferring sterilization to intimacy. He does, though, try his best to satisfy Amy's needs by organizing a dalliance with Zack, but she rejects the plan, and there's even the slightest hint that Sheldon feels relief when she does so. Hopefully, this isn't an indication that something physical between the two is forthcoming. If so, pray the show's writers don't make us watch.
Thankfully, there's Wolowitz and Raj, a far more interesting and funny couple than Shamy will ever be. (Remember the boys' accidental kiss two weeks ago?) This time, they bicker over who would make a better superhero and who would best serve as sidekick. The test of Raj's bravery with a spider in a jar has truly hilarious consequences for Wolowitz, and the wrestling match where they endlessly circle and never grapple is funny as well. But, their story line is far too brief to provide the necessary distraction from Sheldon and Amy. And, as a consequence, the episode is only sporadically amusing at best.
And the best part of it is, if I were Rat Man, you could be my sidekick, Mouse Boy." Wolowitz: "Mouse Boy?" Raj: "Oh, you don't like Mouse Boy? How about Kid Vermin?" Sheldon questions Amy's technique in the lab: "Aren't you slicing that man's brain a little too thin?" Raj lists the things that terrify him most: "Nuclear war. Accidentally being buried alive. Any of those movies where you get that phone call that says you're going to die, and then you do." The Big Bang Theory' airs Thursdays at 8PM ET on CBS.
