Buying Red Wine Online
Buying Red Wine Online

When buying red wine online there are several very important factors to bear in mind. If you don't consider these points, you're likely to end up shelling out money (and potentially a lot of it as good quality red wine especially Spanish wine can be quite expensive) on a poor quality beverage that will only disappoint.

So, what are those key things to consider? Well, like all commodities, the internet has spawned a generation of cash quick retailers, trying to shift anything in the name of a bob or two. If you're going to buy red wine online, you don't want to do it from one of these retailers what you think is a fine Burgundy from 1987 will turn out to be a cheap Merlot from 2010. Granted it can be hard to spot a fake, but a good rule of thumb is that if the site is plastered in adverts, has a lot of flashing banners and promises freebies that just seem implausible... then it's best not to invest.

Merchants and retailers who have real' stores i.e. supermarkets or wineries are increasingly taking their stock online and these are reputable places from which you could buy red wine online, knowing that you will receive a professional service and the right product.

Other retailers may sell only online, in which case do your research ask around and check out reviews on third party sites, to make sure you're buying from an established retailer. If in doubt find a phone number and contact the retailer in person. A good wine merchant will know a thing or two about red wine so why not test them a little and see if they can suggest a good wine for you. If they can't tell a Chardonnay from a Pinot Noir, you may not want to buy red wine from them.
