subject: Ps3 Repairs: Three Solutions [print this page]

If you have a PS3, then you should already know that it is one of the best gaming systems available and generally has far fewer problems than similar gaming consoles. Still, any electronic device can have problems, and most PS3's will still have occasional issues. Some problems you may encounter include flashing red or yellow lights on the console, games freezing or the console freezing on start up, failure to read disc and failure to display video.

To fix a PS3, you have three basic options:

1) If under warranty, you can send it into Sony directly for repairs. These repairs should be free of charge, and the only real frustration you might have is the lost time of game play you will experience while it is in the shop.

2) If no longer under warranty you can still send it into Sony for repairs, but in this case it will cost you a considerable amount of money. You can expect to pay around $150 for Sony to repair your PS3. You may be able to find another electronic shop willing to try to fix your PS3 for a bit less, but you need to be careful as there is often no guarantee they'll be able to fix it and you may still be out quite a bit of money (not to mention time).

3) Fix your PS3 yourself, at home, often in under an hour. Yes, it is possible to fix almost all common PS3 issues yourself if you have the knowledge to do so. In order to learn how to fix your PS3 at home, you should get a copy of a PS3 repair manual like "PS3 Repaired." One of the great things about PS3 Repaired is that it guarantees you will be able to fix your PS3 yourself in under an hour, or you get your money back.
