Tune up your existing computer, Reclaim it's performance!

Got a 3 or 4 year old computer? Tune up your existing computer and keep it longer!

Think about it if you basically use the same software now that you used when your computer was brand new, and it was fast enough thenwhy wouldn't it be fast enough once again if you tune-up Windows and add some memory?

It is widely accepted that Windows does not do a very good job of housekeeping.

For the purpose of this article this article is simplified to express computer system optimization concepts more than to serve as a "how to" guide.

It is my experience that Windows based computer systems slow down for two main reasons:

Reason 1: Unnecessary programs, reminders, updates, free utilities find their way into Windows and automatically start even when they are not being used. This is from programs adding to the startup group without user permission. Irresponsible and unethical programming causes this and it goes on all the time.

Reason 2: System components get dusty and in some cases (no pun intended) the heat causes a computer to step-down the speed of components as part of a heat management strategy.

Adding additional memory and cleaning up your existing computer by dusting inside the case and optimizing Windows is an inexpensive way that you can breathe new life into your computer system and even postpone the need to buy a new computer.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO HAVE A COMPUTER TUNED UP?

I routinely charge $100 to dust and optimize a computer system - I expect that most comptuer technicians would charge a similar amount. This price does not include additional memory but generally speaking additional RAM is about $60. Of course the price of memory depends on the model of computer. When I tune-up a computer I dust inside the case, uninstall unnecessary programs, reduce unnecessary items in the computer's startup group, reduce unnecessary processes, fix error messages, and clean temporary files that Window's is not cleaning with its provided utilities.

WILL YOUR SPECIFIC COMPUTER PERFORM NOTABLY BETTER USING THESE STEPS?

It depends. I do not charge for estimates, and if you are considering having me clean your system up, I would be happy to give you my honest [and free] opinion as to what type of performance gains can be expected from your computer.
