Speed bumps have a mixed reception, with some people thinking they are a great idea for reducing traffic levels, slowing vehicles down and removing menaces from housing areas. Others feel that they are unnecessarily placed and an annoying obstacle on an otherwise seamless journey. But whether you are for or against the humble bump, we are all in agreement that they are causing thousands of pounds worth f damage to cars up and down the country.
More than thirty percent of vehicles across the UK fail their yearly MOT because of damage to their suspension, caused by speed bumps.
Mark Cornwall of mail order specialist, Car Parts Direct said: "Speed bumps are a major problem to motorists. The best advice is that if you do not have a suspension kit, to take speed bumps very slowly. There are two different types; the ones that go fully across the road and the ones that are individual squares. Although the individual square bumps seem to be the least harmful, as you barely feel them if you cross them correctly, they can be the most damaging, as if you are slightly too far left or right you are on an angle, as well as going over a big bump and it can damage the underside of your vehicle.
