Does money give bloggers their kicks?
Does money give bloggers their kicks?

What drives bloggers?

What makes them spend oodles of time, bundles of energy and some money to set up a blog?

Is money the primary incentive among all the advantages of blogging? For many bloggers, it probably is, but I don't think making an income is the key factor for all bloggers.

Any money that can be earned is welcome, obviously, and the income factor is a big draw for tens of thousands of bloggers who are trying to chuck up the torment of their "regular" jobs for the independence of online income - among the chief benefits of a blog.

When we talk about "regular" jobs we of course mean jobs where:

you plug away at your tasks for what seems to be 28 hours a day;

you get no rest over what seems to be all eight days of the week;

you get no thanks for your better efforts, but get panned for everything that goes wrong;

you can opt for chapped lips kissing your boss's keister, or for gluteal sprain get yours kicked;

you have to choose between backstabbing your peers before they do it to you;

you are forced to stomp on your underlings to keep them from becoming too ambitious at your cost;

any economic depression endangers your home, your savings, the well being of your family.

Small wonder then, that the independence of online income has become a major draw for most job holders.

Money and independence are definitely major motivators for all the people who set up a blog with the aim of achieving some online income. The benefits of a well done blog can include a steady income. Many bloggers earn money in the hundreds, often thousands and sometimes even tens of thousands of dollars every month. And among the great advantages of blogging is that all this comes without the slavery of a job, without having to deal with bosses, peers and underlings on a daily basis. Nor is there as much worry about the state of the economy, about paycuts or job losses.

But then, not all bloggers are successful in achieving money and independence.

Many bloggers give the income part of it secondary importance; for them, first and foremost is the more intangible gratification derived from blogging - the gratification of being able to reach out to the world with valuable information through a global medium that is easy to set up and run, can be done with very little investment, offers excellent scope for penetrating target markets and enables use of all forms of media: text, audio, video and graphic.

Where I am concerned, it has been a mix. I have been a wannabe author and an accomplished procrastinator for a long time: for years now, I have been just about to begin penning my opus. The advantages of blogging is that it lets me vent, and among the other welcome benefits of a blog is that it gives me an income source.

If you were to research further, you will come a variety of reasons behind people taking the plunge to set up a blog for the firt time. I am sure all of these reasons will fall under either the "personal gratification" heading or the "financial freedom" heading.

When you click through here, you can see which motivating factors strike a chord with you.
