Men sweat more than women do because men are engaged in more strenuous activities unlike women. In addition to that, the physical and biological feature of men is different than women and thus, the society are accepting the fact that it is normal to see men to perspire more than women.
However, when a woman sweats more than the normal, then it is a different matter. If that woman is an athlete, it is normal to see her perspire too much because she is putting all her effort in her sport. If a woman perspires too much even if she is resting and doing nothing and it is not because of sports, it is a sign that she has to consult a doctor about her excessive sweating.
Excessive sweating is a condition wherein an individual sweat more than the usual and there has been lots of research conducted about what causes excessive sweating. Hyperhidrosis is the medical term for excessive sweating and the overproduction of sweat in the sweat glands caused by the sympathetic nervous system is the root of it. However, it is known that there are various reasons on what triggers excessive sweating. Pre-existing medical condition such as diabetes, individual's personal hygiene, the consumption of food and water are some factors that can contribute to excessive sweating.
Puberty plays an important role in the appearance of excessive sweating. This is because an individual undergoing puberty has so many chemical and hormonal changes occurring inside their body. There are times that an individual may still show excessive sweating even if he/she is in adult life, however, this is not usual for women and the only way that they will sweat too much is that they have the hyperhidrosis condition. Excessive sweating is not because of hormonal changes in women.
An experiment was conducted in Kobe University and Osaka International University wherein many athletic men and women do exercises. They are placed in room having 86 degree temperature in an hour. They find a correlation regarding what the causes of excessive sweating for both. The result, there is difference in the causes for both men and women.
They established that men and women have the same number of skin pores; however, these pores did not produce the same amount of sweat. They also established that healthy men perspired more than healthy women. They concluded that this sweating pattern can be attributed to the human evolution. It is known that in pre-historic times, men do all the work while women do household chores. Therefore, men sweat more than women. This is what the men and women of today adapted, according to the study.
