subject: Will Getting Liposuction Make Me Look Like Kim Kardashian? [print this page]

Lots of people in America are interested in improving their appearance. The widespread popularity of cosmetic surgeries such as liposuction (also referred to as lipoplasty or suction lipectomy) attests to this fact. Every year, hundreds of thousands of Americans undergo surgical lipoplasty. Last year, nearly 350,000 people underwent the surgery in America. While this number may sound large, it actually represents a recession-sparked downturn from the year before, when the numbers were well over 400,000.

Everyone likes the idea of a quick fix, of something that one can perform in one session that will radically change one's appearance for the better. Some people hope that they could look like a super model or one of hollywood's hottest stars or starlets just by getting a lipoplasty. After all, who wouldn't want to look like Angelina Jolie or Scarlett Johansson, like Hugh Jackman or Will Smith?

While the surgery can provide an improved appearance to a number of people, people are nonetheless cautioned against having impossibly high expectations. Chances are that your surgery will make you better, but that it will not move you into super model territory.

There are a number of reasons why this is the case. The first is simply that it's awfully hard to be a super models, which is part of why they're paid so much. Most models have an extensive exercise program and stick to a very healthy diet. Although lipoplasty is good at doing spot treatments, at removing and slimming particular problem areas where extra fat is stored, it is not well-suited to total body weight loss. Additionally, it cannot supply muscle tone, which is another important part of looking fit and sexy. People are advised to view lipectomy as a part of their overall fitness and appearance improvement program, not as a replacement for healthy eating or exercise.

Second, the surgery probably won't make you instantly look like a super model because most models have cosmetic surgeries, too! The news has been buzzing with stories about various celebrities who have or are suspected to have undergone liposuction. The list includes people such as Kim Kardashian, Sandra Bullock, Britney Spears, Jon Gosselin, and many more. However, many of hollywood's stars haven't only undergone lipoplasty. Many of them have had their noses worked, have had face lifts, have had breast augmentations, and have had a number of other surgeries. One procedure will not typically do for the common person what it has taken a model a number of surgeries to achieve.
