Among these strategies, collaborating skill of resolving the conflict is being highlighted. New Paradigm - Win-Win Strategy
In Stephen Covey's The Seven Habits of Highly Effectively People, he illustrates that Win/Win is a frame of mind and heart that constantly seeks mutual benefit in all human interactions. Trust is the cornerstone of this mindset. The outcomes of the agreements are mutually beneficial and satisfying. Win/Win mentality views life as a cooperative, not a competitive arena. Covey further emphasizes that Win/Win is based on the paradigm that there is plenty for everyone. It is based on the core value of living for the sake of others. One's success is not achieved at the expense of others.
The basis of this mentality is that both parties are willing to negotiate. Negotiation improves communication and understanding of each party. When both parties engage in negotiation, they should focus on larger goals that often shift focus from conflict to cooperation. Also, the negotiation should focus on common objective and depersonalize the problem. In the sense, both parties should build on the differences. When emotions run high, both parties should work to control emotions. Each party should strive to listen emphatically rather than trying to project our opinions.
